January has always been the most anticipated month in the Philippine Calendar. Not only that it is the start of an amazing year, but, it ignites the opening of the most festive celebration across the country. They call it the “Mother of all Festivals. It is the most anticipated event that local and even foreign people look forward to. Hands down to the Sinulog Festival.
Sinulog Festival is really living up to the expectation as one of the most glorious festival here in the Philippines. With a very wealthy history, the Sinulog Festival honors the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu, Santo Niño, or the child Jesus. The Sinulog is celebrated every third week of January, each year. People across the globe really pays a visit just to witness the beauty of the whole event

The Sinulog features every Filipino’s creativeness and artistic side. Our eyes will never get bored looking around as the festival displays colorful array of parades and pageantry. We will be amazed of how gorgeous Filipinos are as they ramp the streets with their colorful and breath-taking costumes. What makes the festival exciting and fun is the rhythm from the drums and the harmony from Filipinos’ early musical instruments like gongs. The streets are really lively as spectators and guests add up to the great ambiance of the festival.

With the theme this year, “Cebu: City of Culture”, the festival aims to retrace Cebu’s awesome journey through the years, as well as the people and countries it interacted with and the values and belief that emerged on the province. As part of the extravagant celebration, the organizers have put out a free wi-fi along the route of the parade for the tourists. Many foreign country are expected to cover the event such as the National Geographic Channel and a crew from Hawaii mainstream t.v that will be covering the whole cultural and religious side of the Sinulog Festival. The organizers believe that free wi-fi is a big help to spread the loveliness of the event.
Aside from the magnificent costumes and parades, there will also be a showcase of different delicacies and mouth-watering food of the province. There will be the SME trade fair where the Sinulog features export quality products that are purely made in Cebu, where everybody is encouraged to try. Moreover, there are some smaller version of the festival that are conducted in some parts of the cebu to honor their patron saint. There is also the event which they called as Sinulog sa Kabataan, where everybody, most especially the youths, perform a week before the celebration of the Sinulog Festival. What makes the Sinulog successful is the good whether (Thank God) and the number of people who alloted their precious time just to make sure that their eyes will capture every moment of the event.

We should really be proud of the fact that the Sinulog Festival is a simple reminder of how rich the Philippine culture is. We should be proud that we, as Filipinos, can be globally competitive, in terms of creativeness and style.
